Showing Google Calendar Events on the Sidebar

This tutorial  shows you how to configure and use a Calendar Events widget on your blogs@btvss blog.

The lesson assumes that:
1. You have a Google account.
2. You are logged into the blog with sufficient rights.

Pre-requisite

Activate the ICS Calendar plugin.

For steps on how to do that, refer to the first 3 steps in the tutorial on "Plugins and the Contact Form". Here is a summary, though:

1. Click on Plugins on the left menu.
2. Scroll up or down to find the name of the plugin i.e. ICS Calendar.
3. Cick on Activate below the name.

 

Steps 1 & 2

1. Click on Settings then...
2. Click on ICS Calendar.

 

Steps 3 & 4

3. Click on the drop down arrow as shown above.
4. Click on Calendar settings.

 

Steps 5 & 6

5. Click on Share this calendar then...
6. Put a check mark on Make this calendar public.

 

Step 7

Scroll down to look for Calendar Address and then...
7. Click on the green ICAL button.

 

Step 8

On the Calendar Address pop up box...
8. Copy the link highlighted above.

 

Step 9

Go back to your blog and...
9. Paste the link in the text field as shown above.

 

Step 10

Scroll down and click on the Save Changes button.

 

Steps 11 & 12

On the left side menus:
11. Click on Appearance then...
12. Click on Widgets.

 

Step 13

Scroll down to locate the ICS Calendar widget and drag the widget over to the sidebar category to the right.

 

Steps 14 & 15

14. Put a check mark as shown above,
15. Click Save.

 

Outcome

The Upcoming Events widget will be shown on the blog sidebar.

Note the Next & Previous button below the widget? It lets you navigate the list of events on your calendar if it is a long one.
